Composites Tech going into boat making

COMPOSITES Technology Research Malaysia Sdn Bhd (CTRM), which manufactures composite aero structures for aircraft, is Venturing into making boat and radome products through its subsidiary Composites Engineering Sdn Bhd (CTRM CE).
CTRM chief executive officer Datuk Rosdi Mahmud said a factory to manufacture the products concerned had been constructed at the Bukit Rambai industrial area in Malacca, with operations having started from beginning this month.
"The boats being built are of the catamaran type ranging from six to eight metres using high quality composites," he told reporters after officiating the factory today.
Rosdi said the factory will produce 300 boats in three years for delivery to LeisureCat Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
According to him, the boats are suitable for leisure as well as for patrols and search and rescue by security forces like the police, customs and marine agencies.
For the radome product, a sphere shape structure made of composite materials to protect the radar antenna, Rosdi said the production was for the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).
"We are the first local company to design and manufacture the radome product, which has previously been produced overseas," he said.
CTRM was set up in November 1990 with Minister of Finance Incorporated as its principal shareholder. - Bernama
